$27.40 to $10,000

How to Make and Save an Extra $27.40 a Day for 365 Days

Finding ways to make and save an extra $27.40 per day and putting it aside in a separate account will enable you to have an extra $10,000 in 12 months.

It might not seem possible at first, especially if your budget is tight but if you get creative and focus on making more, you might be surprised.

How To Prepare

Before you start, set up a separate account to place this money in so you can track it properly.

Having a high-interest savings account with a different bank will help resist the temptation to spend it.

Plus, some banks have a welcome bonus such as $21 from Up Bank as soon as you join. They are fee-free, online only, easy to use and come with other perks.

Next, write a list or use our examples to find the money each day.

You don’t need to know how you will do it completely but it is a good idea to know how you will start.

Commit fully to place anything you make or save for this challenge into the account so you physically see it at the end of the year.

Lastly, take action. The only way this will work is if you actually do it!

Some Ideas to Generate an Extra $27.40

How will you make and save an extra $27.40 a day?

Some people start by reviewing their finances, seeing where they can cut back, comparing bills and if they get a better rate, transferring the savings.

Others brainstorm money making ideas such as finding something to resell, doing market research, online surveys, babysitting, yard work, random tasks on Airtasker.

What are you good at? What services are needed in your area that you could do? How can you save on your groceries or other bills?

Write your list then get started.

How We Are Making/Saving $27.40 per day

Below we will share in detail how we made or saved the extra $27.40 per day, starting on 11 June, 2026.

Read about month 1 in full here or check out the first 2.5 weeks below.

Day 1: Online Surveys: $32.20

As you can see in this screenshot, I had $32.20 on offer with Octopus Group.

Sometimes you will get screened out with online surveys, sometimes you get lucky and get them all. Fortunately, this was one of the times I got them all.

However, as you can also see the payment vs how long it takes isn’t great.

Read my tips for online surveys, which ones to use and which to avoid plus how to make more with each company.

Day 2: Gift Food Hamper $50

This morning we were randomly given a food hamper containing about $50 worth of food we would normally buy.

We gave some to a neighbour and transferred $27.40 to the account from our grocery fund.

Day 3: No Extra Treats $27.90

On Saturday, we often fill the car up and get a few specific treats for the kids.

Every time we do, it is $27.90 to $35.60, depending on what we get specifically. Today, we didn’t do it and transferred the extra instead.

Day 4: Gift card hunt $31.78

Checking our emails, we had $31.78 across 3 giftcards that are waiting to be used and had been forgotten about. One was from online surveys, another a referral bonus and the last one the remainder of a gift.

The $31.78 has been transferred to our account as these gift cards are for the grocery store.

Search “gift card” or “gift certificate” in your emails to see if you have any.

Day 5: Cancelled Netflix $28.99

Netflix is due tomorrow so we cancelled it and transferred the money to our account instead.

We rarely watch it, it is full of rubbish and not how we want to spend our time.

Day 6: Cancelled Spotify $27.99

Another monthly amount that doesn’t feel worth it – Spotify family account.

Cancelling these subscriptions feels great and is adding to our goal.

Day 7: Cancelled Another Bill: $155

There was something that cost $155 per month we were able to end this month. That is a huge savings for us.

It was needed for about 10 months but isn’t now and it is fantastic to end it.

Day 8: Free Food

Another day of free food including olive oil, olives, lemons, a lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado, punnet of blueberries and some sourdough from a friend. Most of it was from her garden too.

The value is well over the $27.40 but I will only be trasnferring $27.40 to the account.

Day 9: Discounted Car Insurance

Reviewed the car insurance and found a cheaper option that gives the same coverage.

Day 10: Gifts on Clearance

We had a birthday party, and instead of spending $50 on the gift, we were able to get a few things on clearance, one used to be $25 and we got it for 50c.

In total, the gifts were worth $50 that we bought but we only paid $7.20!

Day 11: Cash Back

Last year I got a few hundred back through Shopback and today I cashed out $30 from something I bought getting approved ahead of time.

Check out ShopBack here.

Day 12: More Online Surveys

This month is unusually good for me for surveys. I picked up another long one and two short ones, totalling $29.30.

Day 13: Sold Clothes $50

I had a few items of clothes I no longer wear that I had listed on Facebook and they sold today!

Day 14: Free Concert Ticket $65

I was so lucky to get a free ticket instead of having to pay. I transferred $27.40 to my challenge account.

Day 15: Bank Bonuses $42

Two of my friends joined Up with my referral code. We each got $21 and since there were 2, I got $42.
You can get $21 free when you join Up Bank (a fee free online only bank backed by Bendigo).

Day 16: Cashed In Cans $31.20

We were collecting them for a while and made $31.20 from cashing in our cans.

Day 17: Sold Something $40

A sporting item we no longer used was listed and sold for $40.
